Score A-O

The zine Score A–O documents the artistic practices of the Score–Dance–Poem Loop during the period from May to July 2024. During this process, I created a score for myself to dance alone in the studio. I filmed the dance, wrote a poem in response, and then generated a new score for the next studio session.

This methodology draws inspiration from Bruce Nauman’s 1960s studio works, exploring the intrinsic relationship between the artist and the workspace. I treated each solo studio dance session not merely as practice, but as a complete work of art—a space to contemplate the intersection of my movement and life.

I have been particularly occupied with the question: why do I continue to dance? This question has been haunting me since 2019. To answer it, I returned to the studio. I danced—alone—with a pen and a video camera.

The formation of this zine is, ultimately, a desire to bridge something the intangible and the tangible, born from my complex, “love-hate” relationship with the ephemerality of dance.
